The Last Herald Mage Trilogy

I've been rereading Mercedes Lackey's Last Herald Mage trilogy, and it's taken me weeks, because I set the last book down when I got to the last two chapters. I couldn't make myself read it for the longest time, because I knew what I was in for. (No major spoilers here, though, by the way in case you haven't read them yet. And if not, GO DO IT despite the following!!!!) I just finished tonight, and just like every other time, I just want to hurl myself onto the bed and bawl my eyes out for a couple hours. God, these books fuck me up!!! I'm such a hormonally messed up emotional wreck. I have half a mind to go take a knife to some tree bark and etch "Vanyel + Stef 4ever" like an adolescent.

GAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!

Am I crazy? Tell me you guys have books that do this to you. 'Cause this one rends me.
