I have such mixed feelings about this. I've decided I'm just grateful! I know fanfic awards can create problems; I don't want to ignore that. But dammit, I'm grateful. I'm grateful. <3 I feel completely honored to have been nominated
twice four OMGFIVE times: best H/D drabble, best H/D smut, best slash smut, best drama/angst, and best threesome smut. Wow! \o/ So thank you to whoever nominated me! You warm my heart. (I'm not asking anyone to vote for me, although if you want to, be my guest, LOL! *headdesk*)

Date: 2013-10-25 08:51 pm (UTC)When you hear the word "award" (in any context) it makes you think about the best being nominated and from them, the most voted (popular) will win.
But fandom isn't quite like that, because so many of us don't nominate and/or vote, for whatever reasons, and then maybe a story that was nominated in a category isn't at all like one we would had nominated if we had been inclined to so, and so it is not up to our personal view of what is best in said category. Therefor it is not a quite a representation of fandom as we see it.
This of course doesn't mean that the stories that are nominated aren't good, they are good, and it's enough a single person loves them to be worth it of a nomination, yes?
But on the other hand, it shouldn't be a burden to be nominated. (I'm not telling you how I think you should feel, I'm just trying to make a point, and I'm sorry it's happening at your journal! ^^) Because awards are a celebration, too, a celebration of what a group of people think is the best.
Of course it's not perfect. A great number or stories are not nominated, therefore it doesn't quite take the pulse of fandom.
I see a category with three or four nominations and right at the top of my head I can fill a list with at least ten fics that I feel should be included, and if a lot of people think like that, well, it is easier to not nominate because you know it won't do justice to the rest of the fics which aren't being nominated.
And then there's the unfairness of winning against a fellow writer, or losing against a fellow writer, and neither is good because every story is good by its own right.
I guess I'm not sure what I'm saying. It's nice to think of nominating your favourite fics, the idea of it has merits, and in theory is a lot of fun, but in practice seems too complicated, and very hard to be fair, you know?
I like the idea of celebrating stories. Man, I want to celebrate every story I love, but in reality, it's just hard. Inevitably you're going to leave stories out, because we have so many different tastes that not every single fic could be nominated, and it's thinking about those that makes it hard to work, you know?
That being said, (so, so sorry, I'm ranty today, hopefully not wanky? I'm thrilled for your nomination. Your story was insanely hot. :D
