A/N: This poem is set in the kitchen at Grimmauld Place. It's Harry POV. It can be pre-slash if you'd like.

he’s slicing an onion,
its shiny cells sloughing
onto the floor brilliantly.
a small smile hovers
on the edge of him;
he holds the knife, point down,
against the cutting board,
dark with stains.
he doesn’t know I’m watching;
he thinks he’s
alone. he’s not thinking about
home or fear.
his body no longer remembers
stone walls choking his veins,
his vision, bleeding fresh love
and laughter and sex and rowdy
evenings fraught with wine
from his memory.

he is here now,
cutting an onion,
and I’m watching him,
full of ache,
breaking silently
for what he’s forgotten he’s lost.
